Privacy policy

SmoothRaffle runs raffles for in-person fundraising events. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and what we never do with it.

What we collect

Your name - so an organizer can identify you when you win.
Your email address - to sign you in, and to email you if you win.
Your mobile number - so an organizer can reach you when you win. We text it only if you tick the box asking us to.
Your entries and payments - which baskets you entered and which tickets you bought.

We do not ask for your address, your date of birth, or any government identifier. We never see or store your card details - those go directly to Stripe, our payment processor.

Text messages

We only text you if you asked us to. On the signup form there is a separate checkbox, unticked by default, that you have to tick yourself; leaving it alone means we never text you, and you can still sign up, buy tickets, win and hear from us by email. We send text messages for one reason: your own wins at an event you entered - a text to tell you that you have won a basket or a 50/50 draw, and, if that prize is still waiting to be collected, a reminder sent by the organizer. If you also switch on text receipts in your settings (off unless you turn it on), we text you a receipt when you buy tickets. That is all. We do not send marketing texts, promotional offers, or messages about other events. Every text comes from our one number, and the exact checkbox and words you agreed to are shown on our text messages page. When you tick the box we record the time, the words on screen and the network address the request came from, and we send one text confirming what you signed up for.

Reply STOP to any message and we stop texting you immediately - that is handled by our messaging provider, so it takes effect whether or not the app is open. You can also switch texts off on your notification settings page. Reply HELP for help. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies, and is typically no more than one or two messages per basket you win, plus one per purchase if you turned receipts on.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

Who we share information with

We use a small number of service providers to run SmoothRaffle. They receive only what they need to do their job, and they are not permitted to use it for anything else:

Twilio - delivers our text messages and email.
Stripe - processes card payments.
Cloudflare - hosts the application and its database.
Google - only if you choose to sign in with Google.

An organizer running an event can see the names of everyone taking part in it, and the administrators of that event can also see their email address and, if one was given, their phone number - they need them to arrange collection and to sort out problems with tickets. That is so a real person can call or email you about a prize you won and never came to collect. Helpers with lesser roles, such as a cashier at the door, see neither: they get your name and the last four digits of your number, which is enough to tell two guests apart and no more. Nobody can see anything about an event they are not running.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not run advertising.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and entry history for as long as your account exists, so you can look up past results. Ask us to delete your account and we will remove your personal details; we may keep a minimal record of completed transactions where we are required to.

Your choices

Turn email, text or browser notifications on and off individually on your notification settings page.
Reply STOP to any text to stop texts immediately.
Ask us for a copy of your data, or ask us to correct or delete it.

Children

SmoothRaffle is not intended for children. Do not create an account if you are under 18.

Security

Connections to SmoothRaffle are encrypted. Your session is held in a secure, http-only cookie, and we never store passwords because we do not use them - you sign in with your Google account.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page.
